Sensei Emma Dyson

Sensei Emma started her training in Wado-Ryu in 1988 and achieved her 1st Dan black belt after 10 years of hard work in 1998. Emma then went on to train in Jujitsu and achieved her 1st Dan Jujitsu along with her 2nd Dan Wado-Ryu in 2002. After starting a family she achieved 3rd Dan Wado-Ryu and 2nd Dan Jujitsu in 2016, then 4th Dan Wado-Ryu and 3rd Dan Jujitsu in 2021.

Emma’s speciality within Karate is Jujitsu and close combat, She feels that self-defence is an essential skill for all ages to learn and applies to everyday situations.

Before UMAKS, Emma graduated from University with a BA Honours degree in Product design, technology and engineering and then worked as a designer for Estee Lauder companies for 9 years. After starting a family Emma decided to teach Karate with UMAKS full time and now has over 20 years’ experience in teaching and continues to train.

Sensei Daniel Edmunds

Sensei Daniel started his Karate training in 1995. After 9 years he achieved his 1st Dan black belt in Wado-Ryu and Jujitsu in 2004. He took up full time teaching in 2006 and graded to 2nd Dan in 2010. Between 2010 to 2012, he took a break from Karate to try new ventures. In 2012, he left the UK to travel the world, during which time he trained in various styles of Martial Arts in Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia and more, to gain experience and knowledge of how other cultures practice Martial Arts. Since returning to the UK in 2015, he has returned to teaching Karate and training, achieving 3rd Dan in 2016 and 4th Dan in 2021.

Sensei Daniel’s speciality within Karate is Kata. He has a deep in-depth knowledge of all 15 Wado-Ryu Katas, all our weapons Katas and some Katas outside of Wado-Ryu.

‘Once you reach your next level, you must not only learn new aspects of Karate, but you must also look back at what you have learnt and improve upon it.’

Sensei Paul Austin

Sensei Paul started his Martial Arts journey training in Judo in 1996, and trained for 3 years. He has interest in many sports, and regularly takes part in half marathons, endurance cycling, mountain climbing and more. He has also trained in Boxing, and then transferred his skills to Wado-Ryu Karate in 2016. He started teaching Karate full time in 2018 and is currently training towards his Black belt.

Paul’s speciality within Martial Arts is fitness, discipline and motivation. His lessons include many strict training drills.
