Competitions

We run two competitions per year for all UMAKS students. Date, time and location details will be provided in the weeks leading up to the competition.

There are four Kata categories: individual, team, weapons and team weapons.

There is one Kumite (fighting) category: individual (all entrants will have a minimum of two bouts).

You do not have to enter both Kata and Kumite, you can choose as many categories as you wish.

We highly recommend that you enter more than one category, to increase the chance of winning, and this also means you get to see your child perform more than once, across different events.

Spaces are limited

so after the letters are handed out, please hand your slip back to your instructor as soon as possible to guarantee entry. There will also be an application deadline on the letter. Any entries/changes after this deadline date will not be accepted, nor will any refunds be given if you cannot attend.

All entrants will receive a medal.

This competition is for all ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced.

You will only compete with competitors of a similar age and grade.

For Kumite, you will only fight competitors of the same gender as well.

Extra Training

We always arrange extra lessons leading up to the competition.

These lessons are open to all UMAKS students, not just those that have already entered the competition.

If you are not sure whether to enter the competition, or are nervous about it, you can come to these extra lessons to experience what is involved.

It is recommended that entrants attend as many of these extra lessons as possible to hone their skills and maximise their chance of attaining extra medals/trophies.

No need to book in advance, just turn up and train.

Dates, time and location of these extra lessons will be on the application letter handed out before the competition.
